Over 500 children from 16 schools in Plovdiv traditionally celebrated World Water Day on March 22. Organizers of the happening was the East Aegean River Basin Directorate with the support of Plovdiv Municipality, Water Supply and Sewrage Operator and the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water. Their representatives greeted the young nature lovers gathered in the sports hall of “St. Partriarch Euthymius” secondary school.
The focus of the World Water Day in 2018 is “Nature for Water”, aimed at implementing environmentally-friendly solutions to address the challenges we face in the 21st century. The musical-dance performances of the youth made a merry celebration. Children dressed as water droplets were the talismans of the celebration – each participant took a picture of them.
Students enthusiastically demonstrated their works, made especially for the holiday. In separate places, each school exhibited the pictures, models, posters and sculptures of its talented students. Patterns of mountains, rivers, seas, and fountains with running water could be seen among skillfully designed ideas. The works contained tips and examples of environmentally sound solutions to water problems. Particularly impressive were the models of the water cycle and the ecological ideas of young people for water purification and sustainable use. Wastewater treatment plants, own-made “Red Book”, a model of the dreamed river Maritsa (which passes through the city of Plovdiv) made of recycled materials, were among the memorable exhibits.
The attractive chemical experiments with water brought а coloriteYoung ecologists gladly received small live fish as a special gift for the feast provided by the Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
