Elmhurst Academy celebrated World Water Day with learning activities centered around understanding water conservation and pollution. One of our classrooms used only a cooler full of water to wash hands with and drink with to help the students understand that water is not a readily available resource in some parts of the world. Another classroom discussed with their students how pollution in our lakes, rivers, and oceans can harm the wildlife animals living there. Students learned how water needs to be purified and sanitized for us to drink and that polluting our water systems makes this process harder and the water less healthy. Finally, students in our classrooms brainstormed ways to conserve water at school and at home so that they could share their newfound knowledge with their families and others in our community.
