“Save Water Campaign” (22 March to 15th April 2018)
By Green Catalyst (An initiative by Paryavaran Mitra, Ahmedabad, Gujarat)
Green Catalyst initiated by Paryavaran Mitra, is a group of enthusiastic students from colleges across Ahmedabad who wants to spread environmental awareness among citizens of Ahmedabad and initiate actions which will help improve the environment in the city.
World Water Day is about focusing attention on the importance of water. Sustainable Development Goal 6 also commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution. We Green Catalyst believe that we can do our part and take our responsibility to learn more about using our limited water supply wisely and think about ways of saving this precious resource. With this in mind the group has launched “Save Water” Campaign to promote wise use of water in the water scare regions of Ahmedabad. It is a 25-day program that will start from 25th March 2018 and last till 15th of April. A series of awareness drives will be carried out like street plays, seminars, and rally for focusing community attention on importance of saving water for future and to focus on the fact that we might come across a day when there will be no water left for generations to come.
The first event was organized on 25th March, 2018, street play on “Save Water” by these students at three places of CTM area of Ahmedabad- outside Carmel Methodist Church, Christ Folk Society, and Shalom Park Society. Green Catalysts displayed street play on Save Water. Through play they gave message that scarcity of water can create “water wars” in the future, impact farmers, and only end up in scarcity of drinking water. They also informed that how common man wastes water in daily life chores and why it is necessary save water for future generation.
