“Walk for Water” Rally by Green Catalyst

Green Catalyst initiated by Paryavaran Mitra, is a group of enthusiastic students from colleges across Ahmedabad who wants to spread environmental awareness among citizens of Ahmedabad and initiate actions which will help improve the environment in the city.
We Green Catalyst believe that we can do our part and take our responsibility to learn more about using our limited water supply wisely and think about ways of saving this precious resource. With this in mind the group has launched “Save Water” Campaign to promote wise use of water in the water scare regions of Ahmedabad. It is a 25-day program that will start from 22th March 2018 and last till 15th of April. A series of awareness drives will be carried out like street plays, seminars, and rally for focusing community attention on importance of saving water for future and to focus on the fact that we might come across a day when there will be no water left for generations to come.
As a part of the campaign, “Walk for Water” Rally was organized on 8th April, 2018, Sunday by Green Catalyst. A small program was organized before the walk at Riverfront Park, Subhash Bridge. Guest of honour was Prof. J.N. Joshi who is retired professor and Head of Department of L.D. College of Engineering and Mr. Vivek Seth who is an Environmental engineer and an Environmental Consultant. More than 150 students from colleges across Ahmedabad participated in the Rally. Green Catalyst also gathered people from around the park before the event by announcing in the park. The event started with a play that was performed by Green Catalyst team on Save Water at the Amphitheatre. Then Green Catalyst team facilitated the guest with Basil plant. Mr. Mahesh Pandya, Director of Paryavaran Mitra welcomed everyone and conveyed the objective behind the Rally. He then called upon Prof. Joshi to share his ideas about save water and how it is important to save water for next generation. Then Prof Joshi was invited to start the rally by cutting the ribbon and giving green flag to the rally. The Procession started from Sabarmati Riverfront near Subhash Bridge. The students wore blue ribbon, color adopted by supporters of Save water Campaign and were holding different posters on Save Water theme to spread their message. The group of around 125 students marched to Gandhi Ashram, Sabarmati, a run of around 2.5 km to create awareness about water conservation and also Gandhi’s philosophy of optimal use of water.
